Sore Nipple Care

When a mother initiates breastfeeding for the first time with their newborn, the mother may experience sore nipples. Educating the mother on different treatment options available can help ease the discomfort. The nurse can educate the mother on hand expression and applying the expressed colostrum/milk to nipples as a natural way to heal the sore nipple. Purelan Lanolin Cream, hydrogel pads, and soft shells can be used for sore nipples.
