Why Should A Mother Hand Express:

  • Helps boost supply

  • Can aid in the expression of colostrum more effectively than an electric pump

  • To help entice a infant to latch

How to Hand Express:

  • The fingers and thumb of one hand are placed back behind the areola

  • The fingers and thumb push back towards the chest wall

  • The fingers and thumb move closer together while creating pressure towards the nipple

  • Release the pressure on the breast and repeat

  • Collect expressed colostrum or milk in a medicine cup, spoon, and/or syringe
